Xi'an and Chengdu

Girls playing hackey sack

Ancient city wall of Xi'an.

Friday morning

We boarded the bus at 8am and Susan greeted us and talked on the way to the Ancient City Wall of Xi'an. We climbed to the top of the wall. Susan said it would  be a piece of cake compared to climbing the Great Wall of China. And it certainly was. This wall is the best preserved city wall in China. It is 9miles long.

The group was allowed to ride bikes along the wall. Lol. Well, Barry and I tried a tandem and it didn't go so well. I didn't last long. He kept going and Anna and her friends rode along in single bikes. I rode a little more later with another gal. We didn't last long either. It was a fun and warm morning.

We visited a terra cotta warrior factory type place where we saw women working on some of the warriors and dragons. There was also an area where they create lacquer wood furniture.

We said goodbye to The city of Xi'an and headed for the airport and had lunch. We will be in the city of Chengdu for two nights so that will be nice. It is in the Sichuan Province.

We met Carol, our new local guide. She has always lived in Chengdu. It is a capitol city and is also known as the Hibiscus city. The province is known as The Abundant Land for its vast natural resources.

This weekend is the Dragon Boat Festival here. Traffic is a little heavier because of the holiday. The Chinese people eat sticky rice on this holiday.

Twice cooked pork. Flower paper. Kung Pao Chicken. Fish flavored pork are some things that Susan recommended to eat. However, we ventured out to a hot pot place that my friend recommended. It may have been the same one. Not sure. We went with another couple and their daughter, Grace. We hinted to the guides to come along and they were busy. Wish they had, as we needed a lot of help! It was a HUGE adventure just getting there and back in the cab, let alone the meal. We had no clue what we were doing and the waitresses didn't soeak English. We just wanted someone to show is how and what to do. You had to cook all of your own food. She found a guy to kind of help and tell us  how long to cook the meat. It was so funny. We laughed and made a lot of memories tonight for sure as we experienced the local culture. I'm sure sone families stayed in and just had pizza. Lol. We wanted to see a new city.
