Mentos Volcano
My nephew, Nolan, is here today. He and Brandon have been trying to come up with a variety of things to do. Brandon got a contraption to somehow attach to a Diet Coke 2 Liter. If you put a mento in the bottom of the 2 Liter and use this contraption, somehow it blows up, so to speak. Every 10 year olds dream! They were thrilled with the result! My boys had done this at church before and it is always exciting!
Logan is recovering!
It has been such an interesting week with Logan's recovery. The surgery went fine and it seemed to take forever for him to wake up. It was over 2 hours and I was getting impatient. Luckily he was in good hands. When we got to the hospital Stacy was there in the area where he was going. She was the gal I was to go to Korea with when she got her son last year. In the Recovery room, he had a young gal that used to be his babysitter when SHE was 13.
Each hour brings something different. The first two days were aweful. Mostly at night. He was in so much pain. All I could do was hold him from the side of the couch and pray. It was gutwrenching to see him in so much pain. He was questioning "WHY?!?!" he had the surgery and was just shaking in pain. The Vicadin eventually made him vomit after a few days, but the Darvacet seems to be working.
Today is a good day. He has gotten his hair washed and has a friend over to play Ps3. Thank goodness for that, I-pod touch and his cell phone. They are getting him through this. He can now crawl and can also move from the couch to the floor and back. Still no weight on the feet at all and that is hard, no showers, no walking, etc. He has gone outside once in the wheelchair, but that is really something only Barry can help with at this point. I am just not strong enough.
Each day is closer to him walking again, so that is something to look forward to. He has enjoyed the visits, gifts, balloons and cards from everyone.
Catching Up
Anna graduated from Preschool. She had a nice little ceremony at the Preschool a couple weeks ago. She had a fanstastic year. I cannot even begin to tell you how wonderful her preschool was and also her teachers, Mrs. Harting and Mrs. Dodwell. They really did some amazing things. I was so pleased with what my boys did at another preschool when they were little, but this place was extra special! I am in awe at the wonderful things they did. She is definately ready for kindergarten. Sigh......

Happy thoughts for Logan's Surgery!
We finally got word that Logan is good to go for tomorrow's bilateral foot surgery. We were getting worried about the timing. Friday he had bloodwork and a physical and a heart murmur was found. So more testing was required to clear him for surgery. We got word in the LAST hour possible today that he is fine and can go to the hospital at 6am.
YEAH...
On a side note...I am completely grossed out at the dead rabbit that the cat has brought me as payment! Remember...this is the cat that adopted US and I have been ONLY feeding it since last summer. What was I thinking?!? It was skin and bones last year when it came to us. Well, it apparently goes all over the neighborhood to visit and sits like a lioness at other people's houses, too. It is a pretty cat. It has brought dead bunnies (this one is TINY), birds and mice a few times. YUK....I get that it is happy that we feed it, but at least finish them off and not leave them in HALF outside my patio door. Today, there sits a dead tiny bunny with no head and the rest of a body and lets not forget the eyeball that is still there. Anna ask me if she could pray for the dead bunny and then she did. IT was quite sweet. Then she asked if she could help me shovel it to a better place.
Hope you weren't just eating a meal while reading this.
Anyway...say some prayers for Logan and his recovery. Two weeks no walking or bearing weight on feet, no showers...yuk...and will have to wear the giant boots for 2 weeks then and then at least 2 more.

Run, Brandon, Run!
Brandon was in a 5K (3.1 miles) on Saturday at his old school for Charity. He ran it in just over 25 minutes and got second in his age group. The boy that one ran it in 21 min and trains for these things. Brandon hasn't had any training, so I though he did great. The weather was horrible! It was spitting rain and mist and freezing cold! Not a great day to be a spectator!
Today he had Track and Field Day at school and was so excited to do a few events. He came in second in one of the events, so he was excited! Last night, just for fun, he wanted to run a couple more miles. He settled for one, though. He had already run a mile in PE that day. He is hooked. I see him in Track and Field or Cross Country in 7th grade. Too bad they don't have more for his age. If you live around here and have any ideas on running for a 10 year old, please let me know.

Mother's Day at the Park
CLICK TO MAKE COLLAGES LARGER!
We met my parents, Grandma and my sister at Allerton Park. It was a fun day being together. We froze to death at first. Poor Anna was in a dress and froze, but luckily I had grabbed an outfit at the last minute and threw it in the car. The sun finally came out after a while, thank goodness and we shed some coats, etc., but before that....BRRRRR.....it was a chilly picnic. I borrowed a wheel chair from church and Logan gladly got in it when Grandma wasn't.
By the way, does anyone know what the purple flowers are called??? I am dying to know!

Happy Mother's Day!
Happy Mother's Day to all my blogging friends. It is so nice to share this journey of parenting with you! I feel so blessed to be the mother of 3 wonderful kids. And I have a wonderful mom in my life that I love very much. We are spending Sunday with my mom and Grandma and my sister at the Botanical Gardens. It will be nice having all the generations together for a picnic and fun.
The kids got me these flowers.....although they were just as suprised by them as me....heee heeee.......
Logan in Seussical Jr.
What a great show it was! The kids really didn't have very long to prepare for the show, but they did great. Logan was the Mayor and he is shown with his "wife". Way to go, Mayor! We are very proud of you! After the musical, the show choir did their competition show. Logan did a great job on his solo, but his voice is definately changing....much lower than a few months ago. He didn't do very many of the competition show songs since he feet were killing him. Surgery can't come soon enough. He should be OFF his feet all day tomorrow, but we are headed to a botanical gardens. We are at least taking the wheel chair for Logan or my Grandma to use.

Playground Fun
Anna and I headed to the new playground at the ZOO. She wanted me to take a bunch of pictures to show the Hamby's since they are hoping to move back to this area! Jessica (from Guangxi, too) and her mom met us, too. It was fun checking out the playground. It has a LOT of areas that are a bit toooooo high up for Anna, but it really didn't stop her at all!

Anna's preschool
The school year is coming to a close and Anna has had a wonderful preschool year.I cannot say enough wonderful things about her preschool. Tonight was open house and we and took a friend who is going to be teaching preschool next year. We took pictures of all the projects for her to get ideas from. The room was full of a ton of projects, charts, books, etc that the kids have done throughout the year. It is amazing what this place does in a year. I will be sad to see the year end, but I know that kindergarten will be much of the same for Anna. She has definately been prepared for kindergarten in the best way possible. Thank you Mrs. Harting and Mrs. Dodwell. Anna was so cute showing Brandon around the school and telling him all about the things she has done at school.
Anna
Julie's shower
Saturday we had a shower for my sister. She and Paul are getting married on July 11. It was fun seeing all the cousins and aunts, etc. that we don't get to see very often.
Grandma's bday party
After my sister's wedding shower, we all headed to the local Chinese Buffet for dinner to celebrated my Grandma's upcoming 83rd birthday.

Zoo Time
We have Zoo passes each year and Brandon has been dying to go to the zoo. It is a small zoo, but it is nice to walk around and see the animals, have a snow cone and play on the new playground. We escaped the house since Logan was staying off his feet that day and Barry was painting the garage door, front door and mowing.
Birthday Boys
This past weekend we celebrated the boys' birthdays. Brandon had a swimming party and then on Sunday evening we celebrated both birthdays with the grandparents. Hard to believe that I have a teenager now and Brandon is officially 10 on Thursday! Their birthday lists are the typical. Logan loves Game Stop and anything in it and Brandon is into these little Bakugan things that I don't quite understand. It is the latest fad, I guess. He talks about it constantly. Doesn't even watch the show, thank goodness, but he sure has learned a lot about them on the school bus from his friends!

Chicago Weekend
Barry and I headed up by train to the Credit Union of Illinois' Annual Convention at the Hilton Chicago on Michigan Avenue. He had some meetings throughout the days on Thursday, Fri, and Saturday. At night our job was to take his board of directors out for dinner (on the credit union's bill). It was their thank you for serving the Credit Union another year. They are all nice people and we spent the dinners just chatting and eating, of course. We went to The Chop House and Fogo De Chao's. Oh my.....these places were amazingly good. The Hilton was a very nice hotel and close to everything. Thursday afternoon I walked to the Shedd Aquarium. Friday I walked for HOURS! I wanted to find the Macy's on State Street and did that successfully and then walked to find the Grand Lux Cafe(yummy asian chicken salad!) to meet a friend. I had lunch with Karna, a high school friend and got to rest for a great lunch visit. Karna works at the Sears Tower so it is nice that I can have lunch with her now each Spring when we go up there for the convention. We ended up at Water Tower.I was so pooped that I took a cab back to the Hilton. I walked around the exhibit hall in the afternoons with Barry. They were all eager to give their speech to him on why his Credit Union needed their product. I was there to smile, shake hands, and of course, take all the free pens, paper, magnets, etc. that I knew the kids would LOVE.
I roamed around and took lots of pictures, too. It was a fun weekend...exhausting, but fun. It was nice getting a closer work at what Credit Unions do. It was interesting learning some new things at a couple of the meetings that I went to. I won't dread next year, but I look forward to it now.
The train back was interesting with a horrible passenger that we had to sit near. He got kicked off at Joliet, but it sure was the LONGEST ride until he was off. He was cursing, threatening passengers, calling people names (including my husband!). It was very bad. The conductor did apprehend the man and put him in holding or something after things got bad near us.
Thanks to the Grandparents at home who took care of the Schmidt Trio at home and also my friend, Elisa, who helped with Brandon!
What else is up?
We are just still crazy here. We do finally have a signed contract on the blue house! YEAH....finally last week, the guy who owns the house we would like to buy finally accepted our offer with a contingency. Persistence paid off. I think he thought that a ton of people would be lining up to buy his house...not. He just did not want a contingency that stated we had to sell our house first in order to buy his. Finally he accepted it. A couple would like to buy our house, too, and they have a house to sell. It had been sold and that fell through, so they are skeptical about making us an offer. So, they are trying to sell theirs now. SO, we'll see......
Easter Weekend
Been a little busy here, but here are the Easter pics. Anna was excited to wear the same dress as last year. It was the Chinese Dress from American Girl. Can't believe it is still long enough. Barry's sister and her family were up here for Easter so we got to see everyone on Saturday some and also Sunday. Sat. night we went to my Grandma's. The kids enjoyed the Egg Hunt outside on Easter Sunday after church.

Egg Hunt/Gotcha Day
After Brandon's soccer game today, we picked up Justin and we also had Nick with us and we headed to Anna's preschool for an Egg Hunt. This is the mother of all Egg Hunt's! Seriously. It was packed, but in the 5-7 year old range, very few kids were there, so Anna and Justin really got a TON of stuff. They were so cute running around stuffing their baskets. It really bugs me every year at an egg hunt that I am always by myself and they separate the kids. I can't be in 2 places at once, so I always have to stay with the littler ones. I didn't get very many pictures of Nick and Brandon, but I did try to run over real quick to catch a glimpse of their faces in all the excitement. After we dropped Nick back off at the soccer field we headed back to take Justin to the restaurant. We drove right by Nelson Park and had to stop and get pictures with the beautiful daffodils. I would love to take Brandon back when we has a different color shirt on, but I doubt he will be cooperative. Actually he is such a ham, that he probably would agree!
Happy Gotcha Day Guiping Girls!
Today marks the day we met our JIN YAN YI four years ago in Nanning, Guangxi in China! It was such a wonderful day! As wonderful as the day my sons were born to us. The journey to China was long and worth every minute it took to get there and the few months of waiting and paperwork. We met this scared little tiny 17 pound bundle of joy who was 13.5 months old. She quickly melted my heart and her daddy's, too. Barry and I will never forget being in that room with the 9 other families were were "giving birth" at the same time. Many babies were crying and it was quite a loud room on this Gotcha Day! My dad was videotaping the momentous occasion and it was really neat to have him in China with us. He shed a few tears that day, too.
Happy Gotcha day to the 9 other families that shared this special day in China with us on April 4, 2005. It has been so wonderful having all of you as "family".
